Lark or Owl?

Are you a morning person? Someone who is up at the crack of dawn, ready to get going? Or are you more like me? Happy to get up, but seriously, can I have some coffee before we do this deep dive conversation? Do you come back from lunch ready to rock and roll? Stating, "bring on the afternoon and lets get make magic!!" Or do afternoons have you checking your clock, running lower steam and unable to process information quickly? While conversations about who is a morning person (Larks) or an afternoon/night person (Owls) can make good water cooler talk, they are also important conversations to have when you are thinking about managing your time. Scientist don't think that our tendency to be a Lark or an Owl is a genetic factor, as they have seen how it can shift during a lifetime (being an Owl is almost synonymous with being a teenager!) They do, however,  agree that Larks and Owls have more ideal times during the day for being creative and quick thinkers. Larks, obviously find creativity surges in the morning, while Owls experience this at night. So how does this affect our ability to manage time. Isn't it a non-controllable? Yes and no. Understanding whether you are a Lark or an Owl, really helps you schedule your day. If you are naturally inclined to be more creative in the morning, scheduling that marketing/branding meeting at 4:00 may not be the best move. Alternatively, if you are a Owl, starting your day with a big/overwhelming project may not be productive. To have real impact on efficiency; however, you need to learn the tendencies of the people you are working with - are they a Lark or and Owl? Knowing this, will help your shape how you schedule time with them. Calling a Lark in for an emergency creative meeting at 3:00 p.m.  may not be the best! Conversely, doing a budget meeting with an Owl at 9:00 a.m. could result in a little bit of one sided conversation. So, over the next couple of weeks, think about your own style. Are you are Lark or an Owl? Then think about those around you. Then, how can you use this knowledge to create more efficiency and TIME management in your business?
